History and knowledge of the world as known in 1884, when the U.S. had 38 states, when Hawaii was part of Oceana, when Persia, Siam, Abyssinia existed.  Inclusions were varied and disconnected, such as the list of "remarkable trials, a mechanical dictionary,  a musical glossary.  The large "Treasury of Bible History " is very good.
