Margaret Halsey. Simon and Schuster. 1946. First edition. "A White Woman Looks at the Negro" The author based her book primarily on her experiences as a hostess at a serviceman's canteen. She did not try to indoctrinate or castigate, but discussed race in a realistic, intelligent manner during the pre-civil rights era at the end of WWII. Surprisingly frank and cogent for the times.
